How Metal Detection Systems Work

All general purpose nonferrous metal detectors operate on the same fundamental principle:

Three coils are wound exactly parallel on a non-metallic frame
The center coil connects to a high-frequency radio transmitter
Two transmission-receiving coils sit on either side of the center coil
Identical outer coils receive the same signal and produce balanced output voltage

When metal passes through the system:

The high-frequency field is disturbed beneath one coil
Voltage changes disrupt the balance between coils
The system detects the imbalance and signals metal presence
Rejection mechanisms activate to remove metal contaminants
